Uniting for asustainable future

Sustainability is a crucial topic of our time, where we face numerous environmental and social challenges, including climate change, food security, and social inequality. Despite this, the interconnectedness of our world presents an opportunity for the younger generation to reshape it with their talent and innovation. That’s why for 2023, the selected theme will be “Sustainability – Urban Living”.

To advance sustainable development, our programme will focus specifically on addressing two United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs):

Goal 11:
Sustainable Cities and Communities

To make cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

Why? This goal recognises the importance of cities as centres of economic growth and innovation, but also acknowledges that they can contribute to environmental degradation, social inequality, and other challenges. Achieving this goal requires a wide range of actions, including improving access to affordable housing, enhancing public transportation, reducing pollution, and promoting green spaces.

Goal 12:
Responsible Consumption and Production

To ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.

Why? This goal recognises that our current patterns of consumption and production are not sustainable, and that we need to find ways to reduce waste, conserve resources, and minimize the environmental impact of our activities. Achieving this goal requires changes in both individual behaviour and corporate practices, including reducing food waste, using renewable energy sources, and promoting circular economies.
